Clear Vision Even in the Dark

In poorly lit, low-contrast shooting conditions, as dark as EV-6.5, where subjects are indistinguishable to the unaided eye, the remarkably powerful AF system helps you to easily acquire focus so that you can capture more decisive moments and important shooting opportunities. The highly-sensitive, low-noise image sensor realises a native ISO speed as high as 120,400, allowing you to shoot with a faster shutter speed and achieve sharp, clear images – even in the dark.

The high-speed processing capabilities of the powerful new DIGIC X image processing engine complement the fast, highly-sensitive CMOS image sensor, driving the EOS R6’s achievements such as up to 20 fps burst shooting, excellent noise reduction even at ISO 102,400, and even better AF performance and functionality.

High-speed and low noise with outstanding light sensitivity, the 20.1-megapixel CMOS image sensor on the EOS R6 is an improved version of the sensor found on Canon’s professional flagship DSLR camera, the EOS-1D X Mark III. Its imaging prowess goes beyond the pixel count: Be amazed by the astoundingly realistic images it renders, especially straight out of the camera in 10-bit HDR PQ HEIF.

In addition to the traditional mechanical shutter, the EOS R6 also has an electronic shutter that is capable of near-silent high-speed continuous shooting as fast as 20 fps with AF/AE tracking. Look forward to capturing more decisive moments, including the unexpected ones that occur so quickly, your camera is the only one that “sees”.

Take straight-out-of-camera image quality to an even higher level with the In-camera Digital Lens Optimiser (DLO), which corrects the optical aberrations and diffraction inherent in lenses to improve the apparent image resolution. This results in better accuracy, sharpness and dimensionality, enhancing the realistic feel of your images.

The high-speed, high-precision autofocus and subject tracking capabilities of Dual Pixel CMOS AF II are available over approximately 100% × 100% of the image area, allowing greater creative freedom when you compose your images.

With denser AF coverage consisting up to 6,072 manually selectable AF positions, and up to 1,053 AF frame segments in the AF auto-area selection modes, you can enjoy greater AF precision even on tiny subjects such as animal eyes.

Developed using deep learning technology, the advanced tracking and recognition algorithm of EOS iTR AF X technology makes it possible to detect and track a human subject’s eyes, face or head in various situations, such as when the subject is in motion, has their face partially obscured, or is moving with their back facing the camera.

It’s easier than ever to capture unpredictable animals in sharp focus with Animal Detection AF, which can identify and track the eyes, faces and bodies of cats, dogs, and even birds.

The faster your AF system reacts, the higher your chances of capturing successful shots of unexpected photo opportunities. The EOS R6 acquires focus in a mere 0.05 seconds*, and also boasts swifter response from a defocused condition, thanks to an enhanced search algorithm. The rest is up to you and the speed of your photographer’s instinct.

    • The sensor-shift-based In-Body Image Stabilizer (In-Body IS) on the EOS R6 corrects camera shake along 5 axes of camera movement (horizontal, vertical, yaw, pitch, roll), allowing users to capture sharper images by hand, even with a slower shutter speed. When paired with an RF lens equipped with the Optical Image Stabilizer (Optical IS), the two IS systems work in synchrony to achieve an even greater stabilisation effect, up to 8 stops’ faster. Image stabilisation also applies when using EF or RF lenses that do not have Optical IS.

    The benefits of In-Body IS applies even during handheld movie shooting, where In-Body IS, Optical IS and the movie digital IS coordinate to reduce blurring and unsteady footage, even when shooting while walking.

    With the EOS R6, you can shoot cropless 4K UHD (3840 × 2160) movies that make the most of the 35mm full-frame image sensor, allowing you to take full advantage of the large angle-of-view of ultra-wide-angle lenses. Oversampling 4K 60p movies from 5.1K is also possible, and results in footage that has higher image quality and richer detail than that of normal 4K, although both have the same 4K resolution specifications.

    Enjoy more flexibility in colour grading with Canon Log, which offers a wide 12-stop dynamic range that caters to professional post-production needs, including HDR movie production. You can reduce excessive shadows in dark areas and keep blown highlights under control, resulting in clear, richly-detailed footage even in high-contrast scenes.

    • For realistic images with a wide dynamic range that closely resembles that of human eyesight, record in HDR PQ, a codec that is increasingly used to produce HDR footage for cinema, video, and digital signages. No colour grading is needed, which streamlines the post-production workflow.

    • Ensure that your 4K* and Full HD footage stays in focus with seamless, accurate subject tracking performance by Dual Pixel CMOS AF II and Movie Servo AF.

    The camera even automatically optimises the focusing speed and tracking characteristics according to the situation, ensuring that focus transitions look seamless and appropriate so that you can concentrate on the composition. Should you decide to use manual focus, a focus guide display is also available to ensure precise focus adjustment. *Except for time-lapse movies

    Built-in support for 2.4GHz wireless LAN enables stable, high-speed data transfer, allowing you to take better advantage of services like EOS Utility, Camera Connect and the cloud-based image.canon service. FTP and FTPS functions are supported as well.

    Compatibility with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology enables a constant, low-powered connection between the camera and a paired compatible smart device, allowing you to geotag your images and operate the camera remotely through the Camera Connect app.

    Linking your camera with the image.canon platform lets you automatically upload uncompressed, original-quality image and video files to the cloud for up to 30 days free, unlimited storage, during which you can access them anywhere, anytime, from any device. From there, you can even send your image files for wireless printing with supported printers. Sharing to social media and supported third-party services is also a breeze.

    Once-in-a-lifetime moments, when gone, are gone forever, but images should remain. The dual SD card slots on the EOS R6 enable instant backup, ensuring that in the event of accidents such as memory card failure, your photos and videos stay safe.

    High-speed continuous shooting calls for additional shutter durability. The EOS R6 features a mechanical shutter mechanism that has passed a 300,000-cycle endurance test, letting you fire away with peace of mind.

    Made of lightweight yet strong materials such as polycarbonate resin for the exterior, and magnesium alloy for the internal structure, the EOS R6 is compact and light at approximately 598g (body only)—around the same as a dozen medium-sized eggs—and yet strong and durable. A dust and drip resistant structure prevents dust and water droplets from penetrating the body.

    Shooting from low, high, and challenging angles is easier with the 3.0-inch fully-articulating Vari-angle LCD monitor—a great motivation to explore new perspectives. Full touch screen functionality is available during shooting as well as accessing menu settings.

    With as many as 6,072 AF positions to choose from, how do you ensure fast, intuitive AF selection and control? Your fingers will know the way with the joystick-style Multi-controller, which even allows you to choose from 3 levels of selection sensitivity.

    The new high-capacity LP-E6NH battery features an increased 2130mAh capacity, so that you can shoot longer and do more with your EOS R6.

    An additional Mode Dial is available on the EOS R6 for swift selection of shooting modes.

    Get closer to a realistic field of view through the 0.5-inch electronic viewfinder (EVF) with a high-definition resolution of approx. 3.69 million dots. The EVF has an increased refresh rate of 119.88 fps for silky smooth display. Capable of displaying bright images with clarity even at f/22, it allows photographers to get more out of ultra-telephoto photography.
