The World has evolved a long way from the caves of ancient times to the skyscrapers of today. But amidst all the development, we have lost two faithful and loyal companions of man : Nature and wildlife. The rustle of leaves and the happy chirping of the birds have gotten lost in the constant rush of everyday life. The cool breeze and cheerful ripples of water in lakes have become a rare sight. It is a miracle these days to find a place where you can become one with nature and observe the quirky ways of our gifted flying friends. Bird watching is a luxury similar to water that city dwellers cannot afford. Hence we need a place that we can escape to so that we can experience the serenity of a lake in the company of the beautiful birds. Such a place does exists at the Pulicat Bird sanctuary but sadly it is underdeveloped and not suitable to be regarded as a spot that welcomes tourists. It is our turn to give back to nature for all the gifts that it has selflessly showered upon us. We need to safeguard such priceless treasures as our lovely planet is not ours to take but ours to preserve. Journey from sanctuary to Lake was 10 kmh. Road condition was pathetic and it took more than half an hour to reach the destination. Hard to believe that bird sanctuary is not having a telephone connection. The white wagtail is a small passerine bird in the family Motacillidae, which also includes pipits and longclaws. The species breeds in much of Europe and Asia and parts of North Africa. It has a toehold in Alaska as a scarce breeder. It is resident in the mildest parts of its range, but otherwise migrates to Africa.
