Beddome's Bush Frog. Macro Photography

Rain brings smile, greenery and fills the heart with hope. Here in an unexplored green paradise of Amboli, plenty of such hope is blooming, and one such hope is a life growing between a tiny tree trunk. We went here herping and found these beautiful little eggs of a bush frog. Making sure the branches weren’t disturbed and eggs unharmed, we took pictures and learnt about their life cycle.

On a foggy morning, we set out to discover the monsoon mysteries of Amboli. And there it was.. Climbing up on those thin branches and balancing itself with the wind and rainfall. It was least bothered when we approached to click pictures of this beauty and chose to keep its calm until it finally chose to move out.

Meet the green vine snake from the western ghats of India Macro Photography

Herping in the dark is so much fun. Especially when we get to learn about these amazing creatures of western ghats. Here, our guide showed us a wrinkled frog- a father guarding the eggs which were deposited by his mate. ⠀ The female wrinkled frog had deposited them on a leaf hanging above the water source. Once the female goes away from the site, this male offers parental care by attending the eggs only during the night, thus reducing the risk of nocturnal predators. ⠀ Further on, these clutch of eggs would hatch and tiny tadpoles would land in water where they continue their development.

The western ghats are older than the Himalayas. The rains breathe a new life into this place during the monsoons. Herping here during this time of rain is overwhelming. Walking in the dark on one such rainy night, hearing the frog calls trrr-tik-tik-tik-tik..... and shining light on the branches, we could see this guy. The colourful malabar gliding frog croaking and calling out to mate. I’m missing the rains. Don’t you feel like going there too..
